Dude, you clearly didn't read my piece.

At no point in my essay did I suggest that it's a "crime" or in any way problematic for someone with a lighter complexion to tan. Nor did I suggest that Grande was doing anything in the way of "brown face."

If you go back and read my piece, Jason, you'll see that I actually *defended* her tan and criticized TIME Magazine for manipulating the image it to make her look lighter than she actually was in the original photograph.

Furthermore, just so you know, I'm extremely well-versed on the history of Europe. As such, not only do I know of the so-called "dark Italians," I'm knowledgeable about the genetic factors that have contributed to their skin's ability to tan so well.

Ariana, having both Italian and Sicilian heritage, shows herself to be an example of the historical infusions from the "south" that began in the 9th century. But that, my friend, is a whole 'nother Medium article. ^_^

Oh, but it you’re interested, Jason, I touch on some of that history in my piece on St. Nicholas!
