Some twenty-plus years ago, around the time that I was processing the heartbreak of a 3-year old romantic relationship that I knew I had to end, I found myself reading haiku and studying its history.
It was the brilliant writings of Bashō that resonated with me most at that time and that inspired me to articulate some of what I was feeling and experiencing then through haiku.
The unexpected outcome of that exercise was that it made me a better writer by learning to say more by saying less.
